I don't see why there should be a distinction between articles created here, manually referenced from another website, or automatically referenced from another website via an incoming feed.

I should try out the Tagify widget, and enable creation of new entities, at least on the author field. Content items with missing required fields should probably be views that we can put on an editor dashboard type thing.
